2010 Kidding Season is Done

Well, the 2010 Kidding Season has finally come to an end. With the final births on Sunday May 9, 2010, we can now focus our attention to raising beautiful kids and to our guests. This is the final tally of the kid count:

Total kids - 23
Total Boys - 12
Total Girls - 11
Total Triplets - 3 sets (Indy,Cheyenne and Aspen)
Total Twins - 7 sets

Everyone is doing fine. We have told most of you some "facts" about goats that have been, frankly, blown out of the water. Bucks are NOT always born first. A doe does NOT kid in the morning if she is bred in the morning and the gestation period is NOT exactly 150 days it is 147 to 155. The following are some of the issues we ran into this year:

Indy had a buck with head and shoulders first, not head and feet. She also had the largest kid we have ever seen. HUGE! Aspen had two weak kids that were under weight and they were also both backwards. Cheyenne had two of her kids in the right position and one that was backwards. Strawberry was bred WAY before we thought and she had her kids in February. Indy was bred allot later than we thought and she was the last to kid. Indy had become ill from her pregnancy. She is doing better but we are still keeping a close eye on her.

Most births were without a hitch. For the most part, all went smoothly but as you can see, some issues came about.

We invite you back to see all the little wonders and HELP, if you want to feed the kids and let me get some sleep. LOL.

We would love to see everyone again.
